South Carolina youth wrestling made a great impression in Indianola, Iowa during the National Middle School Duals this past April 10-11. Team Palmetto took 26 wrestlers to Iowa and Clay Walker (115 lbs.) went 8-0, the first time a South Carolina wrestler has gone unbeaten. Other stand outs included Patrick James (135lbs.) and John VanSlooten (140 lbs.) both going 7-1. Team Palmetto’s youth program is helping pave the way in making SC a state known for it’s wrestling. Although along way from states in the Midwest, the people behind Team Palmetto know that the youth programs are where it all begins. The mat time these kids are experiencing, win or lose, in events like this are extremely beneficial for there careers. Great job Team Palmetto!
Coaches: Steve Walker, Shane Pirkle and Jabo Clary.
