Labor Day Weekend 2011

What: Beach Wrestling Tournament (Per USA Wrestling Beach Wrestling Rules)
Where: On the beach in front of the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk near the Myrtle Beach Pavilion site at 812 N. Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.
When: Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, September 3, 2011.Wrestling starts at 10:30AM – Finish

On-Site Registration: 8:30AM – 10:00AM. Look for the US Marine Corps Tent near the beach volleyball courts in front of The Bowery.
Pre-Registration: Call Tony Tecco 843-222-8135 or Charlie Soto 843-655-1793.
Entry Fee: $10 for USA Wrestling Cardholders. $20 for Non-USA Wrestling Cardholders. Cards expire in August and may be renewed at the event.

Come out for a weekend of sun, sand and wrestling!

Start your day off grappling in the sand and then enjoy everything Myrtle Beach has to offer.
There will be a beach volleyball tournament starting at noon and a concert on the Myrtle Beach Pavilion area starting at 6:00PM.

There will be NO weigh-ins! Only Lightweight and Heavyweight divisions.
Open to male and female athletes of all ages to include:

Male and Female Lightweight and Heavyweight groups 10 & Under, 11-14, 15-18 and 19 & Up. One 3 minute period! 2 points wins the match.

Score by pushing your opponent out of the circle or forcing your opponent to touch a part of their body to the ground! Win by fall when both of your opponents shoulders touch the ground!

No ground wrestling! Throws and hip tosses are welcome and encouraged!

Sara McMann coming to MB Camp

South Carolina Wrestling Champions Camp held in Myrtle Beach, SC at Coastal Carolina University has announced that Sara McMann will be holding sessions at the camp. Sara McMann is the first American woman in history to receive a silver medal in women’s wrestling at the 2004 Summer Olympics games in Athens, Greece. She wrestled in the Women’s Freestyle 63 kg or 138.75 lb. Sara was a Silver Medalist in 2003 World Championships and Bronze Medalist in 2005 & 2007 World Championships. Sara started wrestling at the age of 14 in Marion, North Carolina at McDowell High School.

SC USA Wrestling Reps. at the SC States Wrestling Tournament

USA Wrestling is starting the new season off soon and to get you updated we are having a meeting at the South Carolina H.S. State Championship after Friday’s Wrestling. Check in at the USA Wrestling Information Table at the tournament for location of the meeting.

The tournament is on Feb. 25 and 26 at the Anderson Civic Center. USA New SC State Chairman Ron Donlick and staff will be conducting the meeting to update you on changes and some exciting activates happening throughout the season, so please stop by the table and check in. Again the meeting will follow the wrestling (Feb. 25) at the high school state championship in Anderson. The exact location has yet to be determined. More details will be posted.

Head Coach for the Iowa Central Triton Wrestling team in Iowa. A former Iowa Central National Champion and
later a standout at the University of Iowa where he was a Big 10 Champion and winner of the Outstanding Wrestler Award in the Big 10 Tournament.
Moffitt heads a program the last 7 years where his Tritons have won 5 National Championships in a row.

AS Lower States gets closer St. James having six champions and 10 wrestlers in the finals at Saturday’s Region VIII-AAA meet as 14 Sharks advanced to the Class AAA Lower State individual tournament.

The other teams taking wrestlers to the Lower States are North Myrtle Beach which followed St. James with four champions – and seven wrestlers in finals – in advancing 13 to Lower State. Myrtle Beach had three champions – five in finals – and will send 12 to Lower State, Socastee had 11 grapplers advance with one champion and six in finals.
